WARSAW

Tens of thousands of people from a Polish opposition coalition on Sunday held a massive protest ahead of general elections set for later this month.

Encouraged to come out by former Premier Donald Tusk, who heads the country's largest opposition party, Civic Platform (PO), masses of people held a huge rally in Warsaw dubbed the "march of a million hearts."

Speaking at the demonstration, just two weeks from the much-anticipated Oct. 15 elections, Tusk said that change is inevitable.

He said today's march is a symbol of rebirth and thanked the people for their participation.

Carrying European and Polish flags, protesters carried signs featuring slogans stressing change, democracy, and the law.

More than half a million people took part in the last opposition rally, which was held on June 4.
