PKK a virus destroying families: Turkish-German mother

BERLIN

A German-Turkish mother on Wednesday continued her protest outside the German Chancellery to demand the return of her daughter who was forcibly recruited by PKK terrorists.

Speaking to reporters, Maide T. said "PKK is like a virus that not only destroys individuals but also their families."

“So, whoever is infected with this virus needs treatment. Those who get infected with the PKK should escape from the group as soon as possible for their own good. This virus is consuming both teens and families. Everyone should stand up to this virus," she added.

Pleading an official help to find her daughter, the mother is still waiting for an invitation from the office of chancellor.

Maide T. was flanked by a group of sympathizers who wore t-shirts with a picture of her daughter Nilufer. The protesters also held a banner saying: "Please, help me rescue my daughter from the PKK", as Chancellor Angela Merkel was chairing a Cabinet meeting inside.

Nilufer T. has been missing since Nov. 12 after she said she was going to school.

The PKK has been banned in Germany since 1993, but it remains active, with nearly 14,500 followers among the country's Kurdish immigrant population.

The terror group uses recruitment tactics among Kurdish communities across Europe, including blackmailing with safety of family members.

Turkey has long criticized German authorities for not taking serious measures against the PKK which uses the country as a platform for their recruitment, fundraising and propaganda activities.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women and children.
