Chaos erupted at airports across the UK on Tuesday as a nationwide border issue gripped the nation, according to local media.

Stansted and Gatwick airports confirmed that the problem stemmed from e-gates malfunctioning at passport control, Sky News reported.

"The Border Force is currently experiencing a nationwide issue which is impacting passengers being processed through the border," said a spokesperson for Heathrow Airport.

Passengers traveling through London’s Gatwick Airport may face delays at immigration due to the issue, according to a spokesperson for the airport.

They are advised to check with their airlines for updates and allow for extra time when traveling through affected airports.
