THE HAGUE, the Netherlands

A new government was formed in the Netherlands on Monday 299 days after general elections held March of 2021.

The gap without a government was the longest since World War II.

The new coalition government, the fruit of nearly nine months of negotiations, is made up of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), Democrats 66 (D66), Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), and Christian Union (CU).

Under the deal, the government ministries are distributed among the four parties, with the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy getting the largest number.

Along with the state ministers, 14 members of the Cabinet are women.

Also in the Cabinet are two politicians from Turkish immigrant families. Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius, a VVD deputy, became the justice and security minister, while Gunay Uslu, a member of the D66 party, became the state minister responsible for culture and media.
