Nearly one-third of EU citizens used AI tools in 2025, recent figures show
Denmark, Estonia, Malta reported highest levels of generative artificial intelligence usage
BRUSSELS
In 2025, nearly one-third of people aged 16-74 in the EU used generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, Eurostat data showed Tuesday.
According to the data on the use of information and communication technology in households and by individuals, 32.7% of EU citizens reported using generative AI tools.
Usage was primarily for personal purposes (25.1%), followed by work-related activities (15.1%) and formal education (9.4%).
Among EU member states, Denmark (48.4%), Estonia (46.6%), and Malta (46.5%) recorded the highest rates of generative AI use. In contrast, Romania (17.8%), Italy (19.9%), and Bulgaria (22.5%) reported the lowest shares.
