GENEVA

NATO on Wednesday called on both Serbia and Kosovo to take immediate steps toward de-escalation for the stability of the region.

During his visit to Kosovo, Tom Goffus, NATO’s assistant secretary general for operations, said: "It is also essential that both sides appropriately coordinate actions on the ground and respect existing agreements."

"While KFOR (NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo) has proven essential in the ongoing environment, the solution for lasting stability is a political one. It is critical that both Kosovo and Serbia engage constructively in the EU-facilitated dialogue," he said.

NATO calls on both sides to implement "as soon as possible and in full" the Ohrid agreement reached on March 18 to normalize diplomatic relations.
