Montenegrin police hold large-scale espionage operation

BELGRADE, Serbia

Montenegrin police carried out an operation against criminal organizations and spies in many parts of the capital Podgorica.

Special State Prosecutor's Spokesperson Vukas Radonjic on Thursday announced that the operations were carried out on suspicion of establishing a criminal organization and espionage.

Radonjic said that at the request of the prosecutor's office and the Podgorica Supreme Court, the police carried out an operation in many homes and businesses in Podgorica.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic expressed his satisfaction with the operations.

"I owe a debt of gratitude to the Special State Prosecutor's Office. An international operation is being carried out to protect our national interests," said Abazovic.

Local media reports said that the operations were aimed at Montenegrin citizens spying for Russia.

According to the officials, no one has been detained so far.
