German Chancellor stresses importance of ‘transatlantic cooperation’ amid global challenges

BERLIN
German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke Tuesday via telephone with US president-elect Joe Biden and congratulated him on his election win.
“The Chancellor has expressed the wish for close and trusting future cooperation,” government spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement. “The Chancellor and the president-elect agreed that transatlantic cooperation is of great importance in view of a variety of global challenges.”
Biden is projected to win the presidency by multiple US media outlets, but US President Donald Trump has continued to contest the outcome.
