MOSCOW
Kyiv has apologized to Finland for Ukrainian drones flying over Finnish airspace, Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said on Monday.
During a press briefing in Kyiv, Tykhyi said the Ukrainian drones were meant to enter Russia and may have flown into Finland due to disruption by Russian electronic warfare systems.
"We can state firmly that Ukrainian drones were in no way directed toward Finland. The most likely cause is disruption by Russian electronic warfare systems.
"We have already apologized to the Finnish side for this incident," he stated.
On Sunday, two drones flew in Finland, one fell to the ground north of the city of Kouvola, and another east of it. The country's Ministry of Defense stated that one of them was identified as Ukrainian.
Earlier in the day, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he discussed the incident with his Finnish counterpart, Alexander Stubb, and that both "see this situation the same way."
