Italy's Meloni calls Gaza situation 'dramatic,' says military cannot justify attacks on civilians
'We are all committed to ensuring that hostilities cease and that a serious process toward the two-state solution can be restarted,' says Italy's premier

GENEVA
The Italian prime minister described the situation in the Gaza Strip as "dramatic," stressing that “no military action can justify attacks against civilians,” as she encouraged renewed efforts toward peace, according to the ANSA news agency.
"We are all committed to ensuring that hostilities cease and that a serious process toward the two-state solution can be restarted," Giorgia Meloni added during a joint news conference with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Rome.
The remarks were made during the fifth intergovernmental summit between Italy and Algeria.
Tebboune echoed Meloni's concerns, urging global powers to take decisive steps. "It is time for the international community to assume its responsibility to end hostilities against the Palestinian people," he said.
Israel has killed more than 59,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October 2023.
The military campaign has devastated the enclave, collapsed the health system and led to severe food shortages.
