A hostage situation at Apple’s flagship retail store in Amsterdam ended late Tuesday with the arrest of a suspect, said Dutch police.

Amsterdam police said on Twitter that the gunman has since been taken to a hospital.

Officers managed to stop the hostage taker by ramming a police car into him as he ran out of the building, police said.

Police said they “are still conducting extensive research” in the Apple Store in central Leidseplein square.

A press conference on the incident will be held on Wednesday, they added.

According to local media, several people were brought safely out of the store.

“They were thought to be both staff and shoppers who were on upper floors of the shop when the armed robbery took place and had taken refuge in the canteen,” DutchNews reported.
