The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has embraced the US administration's new national security strategy, claiming it vindicates their longstanding position that mass migration threatens European civilization.

Senior AfD lawmaker Markus Frohnmaier said the document shows that the Trump administration shares common concerns with his party and wants strong relations between Germany and the US.

"The AfD and Trump team are finally speaking plainly, instead of dodging the topic,” Frohnmaier said in a statement. “The new US National Security Strategy now states it in black and white: Europe is threatened with 'civilizational annihilation' – and mass immigration is explicitly named as the main cause.”

Frohnmaier, who serves as the AfD's foreign policy spokesman, also announced that a delegation of AfD lawmakers will visit the US this week for discussions with Trump administration officials.

According to local media reports, following their Washington meetings, a group of AfD lawmakers will also attend the annual gala of the New York Young Republican Club on Saturday, an important event for Republicans.

Trump's MAGA movement and the AfD share similar positions on migration and social policy, and both see themselves fighting against what they view as left-wing opinion dominance in Western democracies.

The new US national security strategy document, released last week, included contentious observations about Europe, drawing sharp criticism from politicians. Germany's conservative leader Friedrich Merz said parts of the document were "unacceptable" for Europeans.

The document claimed Europe censors free speech and suppresses political opposition. It also criticized the stance taken by European governments against EU-skeptical, far-right, and anti-immigration movements.

"The larger issues facing Europe include activities of the European Union and other transnational bodies that undermine political liberty and sovereignty, migration policies that are transforming the continent and creating strife, censorship of free speech and suppression of political opposition, cratering birthrates, and loss of national identities and self-confidence," the document said.
