Police arrested a man after eight people were injured in a knife attack on Saturday in the southern German city of Munich.

Munich police identified the suspect, who was arrested after the incident, as a 33-year-old German citizen who was known to authorities because of past criminal acts.

Local police chief Hubertus Andra said eight people, including a woman and a 12-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries in the attack near Rosenheimer Platz.

The motivation for the attack is still unclear as the suspect refused to make a statement during his interrogation by police.

“At this point in the investigation, there is no indication of a political or religious motivation,” Andra said, adding that the perpetrator was believed to have had a “psychological disorder”.

The police have canceled an earlier warning for residents in the area to stay home due to the threat.
