German construction trucks burned over firm's alleged support for Israel

Police in Germany are investigating an arson attack that destroyed construction trucks at a plant north of Frankfurt after a far-left group said it set the vehicles alight over the company’s operations in the occupied West Bank.

The fire broke out early Wednesday at Heidelberg Materials in Rosbach, local media reported Thursday. No one was injured. Investigators said two unidentified people entered the yard and placed an incendiary device among parked trucks.

Five concrete mixer trucks were destroyed and two other vehicles damaged. Police estimated the loss at €600,000 to €800,000 ($696,000 to $928,000).

A statement posted online by a far-left group said the attack was carried out on Anti-War Day to protest the company’s business ties to Israel. The authors accused Heidelberg Materials, through its Israeli subsidiary Hanson Israel, of extracting stone and producing asphalt and ready-mix concrete on occupied Palestinian land and of profiting from Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, which international law treats as illegal.
