ATHENS
Finland suspects a new airspace violation by Russian military, local media reported on Tuesday.
A Russian military plane is suspected to have violated Finnish airspace off the southern city of Porvoo on the Gulf of Finland, said public broadcaster YLE, citing the Defense Ministry.
Antti Hakkanen, the defense minister, said an investigation into the incident was launched immediately afterwards.
On May 24, Finland announced a suspected violation of its airspace by two Russian military planes.
On May 26, it summoned Russia's ambassador over the alleged incident.
Finland, which shares a 1,340-kilometer (833-mile) border with Russia – the longest in the alliance – joined NATO in 2023 following the start of the Ukraine war.
