Finland sees 2nd warmest year on record in 2025
Average temperatures run 1–2C above normal across most of country, meteorological institute says
BRUSSELS
Finland recorded its second warmest year on record in 2025, with nationwide temperatures well above historical averages, public broadcaster Yle reported Friday.
According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the country's average annual temperature reached 4.5 degrees Celsius (40.1 degrees Fahrenheit), which is approximately 1.6C higher than the long-term average for the 1991-2020 reference period.
The institute reported that annual mean temperatures in much of Finland were 1 to 2 degrees Celsius higher than normal.
Average annual temperatures ranged from about 8C in the southwestern archipelago to around 0C in northwestern Lapland, according to the data.
Most observation stations recorded their second-highest average temperatures on record, trailing only the levels seen during the record-breaking year of 2020.
The highest temperature of the year, 32.6C (90.7F), was recorded in Oulu, while the lowest, minus 39.6C (minus 39.3F), was measured in Savukoski.
