All flights in and out of Berlin’s Schoenefeld Airport were suspended Tuesday after a German government plane had to make an emergency landing because of a malfunction, officials have said.

The Bombardier Global 5000 jet was not carrying any passengers when it was forced to make the emergency landing, the German Air Force, which operates the aircraft, said on Twitter.

"Medical checks are carried out for the crew. The cause of the incident is under investigation," it said.

Berlin airport authorities announced that flights in and out of Schoenefeld Airport were suspended as the German government aircraft blocked the runway.

"Currently operations at Schoenefeld Airport is disrupted. Flights approaching are diverted," the airport authority said on Twitter, urging passengers to contact their airline for their flight status.
