Egypt on Friday received its third submarine from Germany as part of a larger procurement agreement for four attack submarines.

A handover ceremony in the German city of Keil was attended by Egyptian Naval Commander Ahmed Khaled.

Almost 74 meters long, the 1400-class diesel-electric attack submarine can sail uninterrupted for 11,000 miles (roughly 1,775 kilometers) at a maximum speed of 21 knots.

It also has the ability to launch missiles and torpedoes.

Egypt announced the purchase of two of the German subs in 2011, ordering two more three years later.

The Egyptian Navy received the first of four submarines in late 2016.
