Hundreds rallied Friday in front of the German Foreign Ministry’s building in Berlin to protest the “genocide in Sudan.”

“The people of Al-Fasher, Darfur are facing unspeakable atrocities and war crimes. Entire communities are being wiped out while the world stays silent. We, Sudanese in Berlin and friends of justice everywhere, call on all people of conscience to stand up against genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity in Sudan,” organizers said in a statement.

The group demanded “an end to the siege on Al-Fasher, accountability for war crimes and those responsible and protection for civilians and humanitarian access for those in need.”

Demonstrators criticized the German government for its silence and inaction on the “genocide in Darfur.”

“Germany has a special moral and historical responsibility, not only because of its (Nazi) history but also because it is one of the states that claim to take value orientation in foreign policy seriously. And these values are only credible if they also apply to Africa,” an unnamed female protester told the crowd.

“And that is why we demand a clear political stance from Germany against the ethnic cleansing in Darfur,” she added.

Germany urged an immediate end to "killings, rape, and torture" in Sudan on Tuesday, after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of the western Sudanese city of El Fasher, the capital of the North Darfur region.

“As RSF fighters control large parts of El Fasher, Sudan, we urge those responsible to stop all violence against civilians trapped in the city. Killings, rape & torture must end now,” the German Foreign Ministry wrote on US social media company X.

“The RSF leadership committed publicly to protect civilians. They will be held accountable,” it added.
