Armored cash transport targeted in robbery attempt on Italian highway
Attackers block road, used explosive and gunfire during attempted heist

An armored cash transport was targeted by a group of armed people in broad daylight Monday in southern Italy.
The incident occurred on State Road 613, the highway connecting Lecce and Brindisi, near Tuturano in southern Italy, local newspaper L’Unione Sarda reported.
The attackers parked a van across the road and set it on fire in an attempt to force the armored vehicle to stop.
They also opened fire on Carabinieri personnel, Italy’s gendarmerie, at the scene.
Local media said the attackers used explosives during the attempted robbery, but no injuries were reported.
Videos circulated on social media showed the explosion and the brief chaos during the attempted heist.
