An alarm was reportedly activated in the Greek Cypriot Administration on Wednesday over a possible attack and a radar trace detected from the direction of Lebanon, with airspace said to have been partially closed.

According to Greek Cypriot media, concerns over a possible attack on British military bases located in the Greek Cypriot Administration and the detection of an object on radar approaching from Lebanon prompted alerts at base areas and at the US Embassy in Nicosia.

Following the incident, F-16 fighter jets sent by Greece to the Greek Cypriot Administration and warplanes from British bases were reported to have taken off.

Some newspapers claimed that Greek Cypriot airspace was closed during the alert, limited to the Larnaca region.

Last Monday, a drone struck the British sovereign base of Akrotiri in the Greek Cypriot Administration.

US-Israel attacks on Iran

Israel and the US launched a military attack on Iran on Feb. 28 while negotiations between Tehran and Washington were ongoing.

Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in Israel as well as in several regional countries hosting US bases, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

In the US-Israel attacks, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and a number of senior officials were killed.

The Iranian Red Crescent announced that nearly 900 people lost their lives in the US-Israel attacks.
