Two people were killed and five others injured in a shooting on Friday in Nice, a French city in the southeastern Alpes-Maritimes department.
"A shooting took place tonight in Nice, in the Moulins district. Two people have died, two are seriously injured, and three others have minor injuries," the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture announced on the US social media company X.
It noted that law enforcement and firefighters have secured the area, while reinforcements will be deployed starting Saturday to restore security in the district, at the order of the Interior Ministry.
"Present on site in the Moulins district with local residents, where the situation is tense and chaotic. An incursion linked to narco-banditry led to automatic gunfire," Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi also wrote on X.
The public prosecutor of Nice told broadcaster BFMTV that “an investigation into organized gang murder and attempted organized gang murder has been opened.”
