Turkey's Gumbel Group and Germany's photovoltaic system technology company SMA Group entered into a cooperation agreement to supply inverters for 70 megawatts (MW) of rooftop solar installments in Turkey, Gumbel Group announced on Friday.
The products that will be purchased under the agreement will be used by Heran Energy in turnkey rooftop solar projects and by Elseroof Energy as an authorized SMA sales partner in Turkey, both firms being embodied by Gumbel Group
The signing ceremony was organized through video conference with the attendance of Gumbel Group's Board Chairman Mustafa Herdem and SMA Group's South Europe Regional Manager Valerio Natalizia.
"Turkey has a big potential in solar, which is a clean and green renewable energy source. In order to materialize this potential we will continue our projects and investments rapidly," Herdem was quoted as saying in the statement.
Reiterating that Gumbel and SMA's partnership entered its ninth year, Herdem stressed that this partnership dates back to 2013 and Gumbel Group have used SMA's products in almost 90% of its installments between 2013 and 2016.
"In 2016, under our agreement with SMA, we signed a deal similar [to the present one] with SMA for string inverters and have made a purchase totaling 154 MW," he explained, adding that this year's deal includes string inverters to be used in Turkey's rooftop PV market.
"We are determined to exceed the capacity we have promised within a year ahead of us. The first installments subsequent to ordering will be in the Aegean and the Central Anatolian regions," he declared.
Natalizia also stressed that SMA has ambitious targets in Turkey which has a growing rooftop market.
Pointing to the company's new inverter mainly used in self-consumption projects, SMA Sunny Tripower CORE2, Natalizia said that this product raises the level higher in the market with 110 kilowatts, 24 strings and 12 MPP trackers, allowing for a particularly high solar coverage in ground-mounted PV systems as well as at different roof pitches during the day.
"SMA is not only an inverter supplier, but also a leading service provider for photovoltaic systems. This agreement will bring added value to our long term partnership once more," Natalizia concluded.
