The UK is launching a Floating Offshore Wind Task Force to seize world leadership in innovative technology, RenewableUK, renewable energy trade association, announced on Tuesday.
RenewableUK and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult worked with the UK, Scottish and Welsh Governments to set up the task force.
The new group will include leading companies working with floating projects around the UK, senior representatives from the UK and devolved Governments and key stakeholder organizations such as The Crown Estate and Crown Estate Scotland.
The initial objective of the group will be to define the scale of opportunity for the industry and produce a comprehensive report on how to best utilize the power from offshore resources.
First, the group will analyze how fast new capacity can be built in UK waters and quantify the potential investment needed in UK ports and infrastructure to meet this demand, until autumn.
The task force 'will provide clarity on the strategic investments the UK needs to scale up and deliver a whole new industry, creating thousands of new jobs and revitalizing ports and coastal communities around the country,' RenewableUK’s CEO Dan McGrail said.
