Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak met with Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh in Moscow on Monday, and the two ministers discussed energy cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement from Russia's Energy Ministry.
'The parties discussed the implementation of the roadmap for Russian-Iranian cooperation in the energy sector, and the possibility of participation of Russian oil and gas companies in a number of projects in Iran,' the statement said.
The two ministers also discussed cooperation in joint infrastructure gas projects, and cooperation in multilateral formats - through Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), it added.
'Regular contacts at the highest level create favorable conditions for strengthening bilateral cooperation both at the interagency level and at the corporate level,' Novak said.
The Russian minister had previously said that Russia was still interested in the oil-for-goods program with Iran whereby it would provide goods and services to Iran in exchange for oil.
'We are interested in Iran having the opportunity to buy Russian goods, work and services, to increase trade turnover and develop relations,' Novak was quoted as saying by TASS news agency on July 13.
