ISTANBUL

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits remained unchanged at 213,000 for the week ending Feb. 28, according to Department of Labor data released on Thursday.

The figure matched the previous week’s revised level, which was adjusted upward by 1,000 from 212,000 to 213,000.

The 4-week moving average, which provides a clearer picture of labor market trends by reducing weekly volatility, decreased by 4,750 to 215,750.

Insured unemployment, also known as continuing claims, rose by 45,000 to 1.89 million for the week ending Feb. 21.

The insured unemployment rate remained stable at 1.2% for the reporting period.
