ISTANBUL

The number of people filing initial claims for unemployment insurance in the US fell to 205,000 in the week ending March 14, below expectations.

The US Department of Labor released its weekly data on unemployment insurance claims; the number of people filing initial jobless claims in the country fell by 8,000 from the previous week.

Market expectations were at 215,000 for the week while the previous week’s figure was at 213,000.

As of last week, the four-week moving average of initial jobless insurance claims also decreased by 750 to 210,750.

The number of continuing jobless claims, meanwhile, rose by 10,000 to 1.86 million in the week ending March 7.
