ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 89,510.88 points on Thursday, up 0.48% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 90,116.05 points. As of the daily close, it earned 425.75 points from Wednesday's close of 89,085.13 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 88,081.88 points and 90,408.82 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 625.5 billion Turkish liras ($94.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 10.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 46 stocks on the index rose, 49 were down and five were flat compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by petrochemical company Petkim, private lender Garanti and polyester company Sasa.

Telecommunication firm Karel was the best performer, with its shares up 7.60%, while real estate investment company Reysas dropped the most, losing 6.36%.

Borsa Istanbul has announced that it will remove double zeros from its indices as of April, 27.

On Thursday, it said the removal was postponed July, 6, by noting: "Due to the current extraordinary conditions, participation in the tests for these projects have been well below desired levels."

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,589.05 by market close, down from $1,599 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was over $30 level per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Thursday. It posted a rapid increase during last two hours, from $26 level.
