Turkish stocks start day with 0.77% rise

ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index started the day at 108,926.19 points on Wednesday, up by 0.77%, or 828.93 points.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up by 0.77% at 108,097.27 points with a daily trading volume of 16 billion Turkish liras ($2.3 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 6.7080 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Wednesday, compared to 6.7280 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also fell to 7.5180 from 7.5320 and one British pound traded for 8.4630 Turkish liras, down from 8.4780 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $40.30 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
