Turkish stocks hit all-time high at midweek close

ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index was up 0.34% to close Wednesday at 1,325.47 points – an all-time high.

Starting the day at 1,330.07 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index earned 4.49 points over Tuesday's close of 1,320.98 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 1,323.42 and 1,341.91 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 977.4 billion Turkish liras ($123.45 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 30.98 billion Turkish liras ($3.89 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 39 stocks on the index rose, 59 fell, and two were flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron/steel producer Kardemir, private lender Garanti and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Celebi, active in airport ground operations, was the best performer, with its shares up 9.99%, while stocks of paper and carton producer Kartonsan dropped the most, losing 5.41%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,808.35 by market close, down from $1,812 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $48.2 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT) on Wednesday.
