ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 101,062.51 points on Tuesday, down 2.38% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 106,021.05 points. As of the daily close, it dropped 2,461.51 points from Monday's close of 103,524.02 points.

During the day, the index hovered between 101,022.33 points and 106,857.20 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 699.3 billion Turkish liras ($114.46 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 9.09 billion Turkish liras ($1.48 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, five stocks on the index rose and 95 were down compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by defense giant Aselsan, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and private lender Garanti.

Garanti was the best performer, with its shares up 1.85%, while petrol firm Turcas dropped the most, losing 12.59%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,658 by market close, down from $1,676.35 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $36.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
