ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.46% to 114,668.41 points at the closing session of Friday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 115,117.06 points. It earned 529.46 points from Thursday's close of 114,138.95 points.

During the day, the index's lowest level was 114,928.15 points, while the highest was 115,327.22 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 823 billion Turkish liras ($120 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 15 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 46 stocks on the index rose, 7 were down, and the remaining flat compared to Thursday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by energy companies Odas Elektrik, Zorlu Enerji and leasing company Is Finans Kiralama.

An electrolytic copper producer, Sarkuysan was the best performer, with its shares up 9.87%, while the fertilizer manufacturer Gubre Fabrika dropped the most, losing 5.40%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,759.50 by market close, down from $1,761.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $40.45 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Friday.
