ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 106,588.41 points on Friday, down 0.20% from the previous close.   

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 107,108.90 points. As of the daily close, it lost 216.79 points from Thursday's close of 106,805.20 points.

During Friday's trading, the index hovered between 106,019.77 points and 107,495.08 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 724.5 billion Turkish liras ($127.3 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 7.44 billion Turkish liras (some $1.3 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 45 stocks on the index rose, 47 were down, and eight were flat compared to Thursday.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and defense giant Aselsan.

Real estate investment company Alarko was the best performer with its shares up 9.11%, while shares of grocery store chain Migros dropped the most, down 7.84%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,471.75 by market close, up from $1,471.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $63.90 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Friday.
