BIST 100 index falls 1,142.32 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.70

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day down 1.11% to close at 101,447.39 points on Tuesday. 

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 102,658.76 points. As of today's close, it lost 1,142.32 points from Monday's close of 102,589.71 points.

During Tuesday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 100,976.51 points and 102,663.08 points -- 28 stocks on the index rose, 64 fell, and 8 were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of nearly 921 billion Turkish liras ($161 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 10 billion Turkish liras ($1.75 billion). 

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Halkbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and state lender Halkbank.

Shares of Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and state lender Halkbank saw the highest trading volumes on Tuesday.

Stocks of casting producer Cemas were the top gainers, rising 1.1%, while shares of Parsan Makina (PARSN), operating in steel forging and machinery, did the worst with a 13.06% drop. 

An ounce of gold was sold for $1,501.96 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,504 at the previous close.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.7000 as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) at the close of Tuesday -- down from 5.7160 at Monday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.2950, while one British pound traded for 7.1070 Turkish liras as of close.

The price of Brent oil was around $64.39 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Tuesday, with a day range of $64.28 to $69.25.

At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil was sold for around $53.
