Turkey's Borsa Istanbul closes Wednesday with records


ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index ended with gains on Wednesday to hit another record closing of 1,857.40 points, while it hit a new intraday all-time high of 1,857.83 points during the session.

Starting the day at 1,828.33 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 47.75 points, or 2.64%, from the previous close of 1,809.65 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,823.06 points, while its daily high was 1,857.83 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.5 trillion Turkish liras ($116 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 38.7 billion Turkish liras ($2.9 billion).

While 90 stocks on the index rose, eight fell during the day, and two remained unchanged compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and glassmaker Sise Cam.

Ceramic wall and floor tile manufacturing company QUA Granite was the best performer with its shares up 9.99%, while stocks of pharmaceutical firm Turk Ilac Serum​​​​​​​ saw the sharpest drop – 5.4%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,783.20 by market close, down from $1,792.60 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 3.1% to $71.37 per barrel as of 6.31 p.m. local time (1531GMT).
