Turkey's benchmark stock index starts week with gain

ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index went up 0.15 percent or 151.80 points to open at 102,866.81 points on Monday.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 0.57 percent to close the week at 102,715.01 points with a daily trading volume of 6.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.3 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.2890 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Monday, compared to last week's close of 5.2720.

The euro/lira exchange rate was 5.9840, versus 5.9380, and one British pound was exchanged for 6.8400 Turkish liras, as the GBP/TRY was 6.7550 by market close on Friday.

The price of Brent oil was around $66.62 per barrel as of 10.15 a.m. local time (0715GMT) Monday.
