Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul up at Thursday's close

ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed on Thursday at 1,401.52 points, up 1.13% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 1,390.92 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 15.61 points over the previous close at 1,385.91 points.

During the day, the index's lowest value was 1,390.92 points, while its daily high was 1,406.51 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 996 billion Turkish liras ($121.7 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 11.7 billion Turkish liras ($1.43 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 75 stocks on the index rose, 22 fell, and three were same compared to Wednesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, iron/steel producer Eregli, and petrochemical giant Petkim.

Cement producer Konya Cimento was the best performer, with its shares up 8.50%, while stocks of fertilizer provider Ege Gubre dropped the most, 4.57%.

The price of one ounce of gold remained unchanged – $1,768 – by market close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $67.60 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
