S&P 500, Nasdaq extend streak, Dow rises 100 points

S&P 500, Nasdaq extend streak, Dow rises 100 points

ANKARA

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq extended their streak by closing in positive territory on Monday, while the Dow Jones increased more than 100 points.

The blue-chip Dow Jones rose 104 points, or 0.29%, to close at 36,432 after hitting an all-time high of 36,565.73 points earlier.

The S&P 500 increased four points, or 0.09%, to 4,701 points, posting its eighth consecutive daily increase.

The Nasdaq added 10 points, or 0.07%, to 15,982. The tech-heavy index extended its streak to eleventh day.

Despite a positive outlook, the VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, was up 4.5% to 17.23. The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes rose 3% to 1.497%.

The US dollar index, on the other hand, was down 0.3% to 94.03.

Oil prices were up 1.1% with international benchmark Brent crude trading at $83.68 per barrel, and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $82.22 a barrel.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.4% to $1,825 per ounce and silver soaring 1.3% to $24.48.

Price of Bitcoin was trading at $66,400 for more than a 6% daily gain at the time, just short of its all-time high of $67,000 recorded on Oct. 20.

The total value of the cryptocurrency market hit a record $3 trillion earlier Monday, according to data by digital asset price-tracking website CoinGecko.
