Wholesale of food, beverages, tobacco rise 4.6% year-on-year, leading increase in total prices in April

Germany's wholesale prices up 0.8% in April

ISTANBUL

Germany's wholesale prices rose by 0.8% on a yearly basis in April, a federal statistical office statement said on Thursday.

The figure came after 1.3% and 1.6% increases in March and February, Destatis said.

The main reason for the year-on-year rise in wholesale prices in April were higher prices in the wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco, with prices up 4.6% from April 2024.

The prices of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices in April were much higher than a year earlier with a 32.2% climb.

The prices of sugar, confectionery and bakery products rose 16.6%. Milk, milk products, eggs, edible fats and oils were also 9.1% higher than a year earlier.

By contrast, the prices observed in the wholesale of solid fuels and mineral oil products were down 8.4% from April 2024.

There were also lower prices in computers and peripheral equipment (-5.8%) and iron, steel and ferrous semi-finished metal products (-4.4%).

On a monthly basis, on the other hand, the wholesale prices decreased by 0.1% in April, missing expectations of a 0.2% rise in the month.
