Germany's annual inflation at 2.1%, more than forecasts

Services prices up 3.4%, goods 0.9%, foods 2.8% while energy drops 4.6% year-on-year in May

Germany's annual inflation at 2.1%, more than forecasts

ISTANBUL

The annual inflation rate was at 2.1% in Germany this month, the federal statistical office Destatis announced on Friday, exceeding market expectation of 2%.

The services' price rose by 3.4% in May, while inflation in goods item was at 0.9%, Destatis' data showed.

The core inflation — excluding food and energy — in the locomotive economy for the euro area was at 2.8% in May.

Energy prices dropped by year-on-year 4.6% in May and food prices hiked by 2.8%, figures showed.

On a monthly basis, the inflation rate was at 0.1% in the country.
