European stocks end mostly in positive territory

ISTANBUL

European stock markets ended mostly higher Monday on the first trading day of the new year. 

The STOXX Europe 600, which includes around 90% of the market capitalization of the European market in 17 countries, rose 2.19 points, or 0.45%, to close at 489.99.

Germany's DAX 30 rose 135.87 points, or 0.86%, to close at 16,020 while France's CAC 40 climbed 64.19 points, or 0.9%, to 7,217.

Italy's FTSE MIB 30 was up by 383.49 points, or 1.4%, to close at 27,730.

Spain's IBEX 35 added 47.4 points, or 0.54%, to finish at 8,761.

London's FTSE 100 however fell by 18.47 points, or 0.25%, to end at 7,384.
