ISTANBUL
Sales of automotive products were down 21 percent in the first five months of this year to 285 thousand over the same period a year earlier, according data provided by a Turkish association of automakers.
Sales of cars dropped 17 percent to 194 thousand as light commercial vehicles market shrank by 29 percent with an overall sales volume of 76 thousand.
Exports of automotive products were down 5 percent to 328 thousand, and export of cars decreased to 185 thousand while export of tractors was up 171 percent to 7 thousand.
Drop in domestic and foreign demand forced production to go down by 8 percent to 469 thousand and production of cars decreased 14 percent to 238 thousand.
