Shanghai Stock Exchange rises 1.1% as official figures show growth in manufacturing, services activity

Asian stock markets close lower except for China

ANKARA 

Major Asian stock markets except for China closed Thursday with losses.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, fell 37.5 points, or 1.15%, to 3,208.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 stock exchange was the worst performer of the day, down 411.6 points, or 1.54%, to 26,393.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, decreased 137 points, or 0.62%, to 21,860.


China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange, on the other hand, increased 16 points, or 0.5%, to 3,305.


China's composite purchasing managers' index (PMI), measuring both manufacturing and services activity, jumped to 54.1 in June from 48.4 a month ago.

The country's manufacturing PMI rose above the threshold level after contracting for three months in a row, hitting 50.2 in June.

While the Indian Sensex benchmark dropped 23.6 points, or 0.04%, to 53,003, the Singapore index decreased 32.7 points, or 1.04%, to finish at 3,102.
