Ancient Torah seized in northeastern Turkey

ARDAHAN, Turkey

Turkish security forces seized a handwritten, gold-plated Jewish Torah in the country's northeast, according to a security source on Wednesday.

The Torah, which is believed to be a historical artifact, was confiscated during a road check on the Ardahan-Kars highway, the source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
