ISTANBUL
Istanbul continues to attract top-name talent to its stages as it has been revealed that Hollywood hard-man Hugh Jackman and veteran French actor Gerard Depardieu are set to perform in the city.
Australian actor Jackman, perhaps best-known to movie goers as the muscle-bound Wolverine character from the X-Men series, has recast himself in recent years as a star in musical productions.
Having featured in the 2012 blockbuster production of ‘Les Miserables’, the Tony-Award-winning actor will bring his ‘An Evening with Hugh Jackman’ show – featuring dancers and a 27-piece orchestra – to Istanbul’s Zorlu Center PSM next March.
It will be Jackman’s first live performance in Istanbul, Zorlu Center director Ray Cullom said on Thursday.
Before this, French star Gerard Depardieu will star alongside Anouk Aimee in Istanbul’s first performance of ‘Love Letters’, play by AR Gurney which has been translated into 30 languages.
Concentrating on the separated love affair of two people across 50 years, the drama has been performed by many other Hollywood notables such as Christopher Walken, Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver.
Depardieu is well-known to English-speaking audiences for his Golden-Globe-Award winning role in ‘Green Card’ (1990) and his critically acclaimed portrayal of French romantic hero Cyrano de Bergerac.
Aimee and Depardieu will perform ‘Love Letters’ in Istanbul in January next year.
