The EU delegation to Turkey on Tuesday opened a photo exhibition on Syrian refugees living in the country to mark World Refugee Day.

The “It is all very real” exhibition features 10 inspiring stories of Syrian refugees living in Turkey. The display will be open to visitors until June 26.

The head of the EU delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Christian Berger and Turkish Prime Ministry’s head of International Relations Department, Gulsum Akbulut attended the opening at Cermodern art gallery in capital Ankara.

The refugees featured in the photos and their families also attended the ceremony.

“The EU remains committed to assisting refugees in Turkey and the communities that host them,” Berger said in his opening remarks.

“Have a look at the inspiring stories we compiled for you in this exhibition and remember that it is a mere fragment of a bigger story unfolding as we speak: a story of EU-Turkey cooperation,” he added.

A Syrian children choir took the stage to perform Turkish, French, Arabic and English songs.

On Tuesday, the United Nations announced that the world’s forcibly displaced population rose to 2.9 million last year, with a record high 68.5 million people forcibly displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, or violence.

Turkey hosts nearly 3.6 million Syrian refugees, according to a refugee association's data.

Each year June 20 is observed as World Refugee Day.
