Cinema-concert at Istanbul’s Salon IKSV
American pop-folk duo Damon and Naomi will be performing at Istanbul’s Salon IKSV on April 11.
The duo released their latest album “Fortune” in February.
A 30-minute silent movie, with the same title as the album, made by Naomi will accompany the duo within the scope of the 34th Istanbul Film Festival.
The band, formerly known as Galaxie 500, was formed in 1991 by Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang.
Damon and Naomi contributed to the soundtracks of various films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Greenberg, as well as of TV shows like the Sopranos or The Ghost Whisperer, according to Salon IKSV’s website.
Young artists' "reunion" at Istanbul’s Sabanci Museum
Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul brings together works of young artists who collaborated with the Sabanci University Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design.
The exhibition titled “Reunion” will be open between April 9 and July 26.
“Sabanci University Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Program came to be increasingly recognized in local and international biennales, expositions and museums in recent years,” said a press release from the museum.
“These young artists are making their marks in art spaces both in Turkey and abroad,” the museum added.
French Consulate hosts Ahmet Sel’s photo exhibition
French Consulate in Istanbul hosts an exhibition on portraits of immigrants by prominent Turkish photojournalist Ahmet Sel.
The display titled “Demir Atanlar-Those who Anchor” will be open to visit until April 30.
The exhibition features 40 portraits of Turkish migrants in France as this year marks the 50th anniversary of a bilateral labor agreement between the two countries, whichdates back to 1965.
An award-winning photojournalist Sel is the director of photography and video for Anadolu Agency.
He was born in Turkey in 1956 and settled in France in 1981. Working as a bureau chief for French photo agency Sipa Press, Sel lived in Russia between 1990 and 2000.
Spanish dance show in Istanbul
Spain’s dance group Rojas and Rodriguez will take the stage at Istanbul Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall on April 11.
Titled “Titanium,” the show mingles various type of dance such as flamenco and hip hop.
Also, Spain’s break dance champion B-boy Chey Jurado will accompany the group onstage.
The all-male show made its debut in 1995 and has been performed in more than 20 countries including Germany, Greece, Mexico and Poland.
Robert Montgomery exhibition in Istanbul
Scottish contemporary artist Robert Montgomery’s first solo exhibition will be open to visitors at Istanbul’74 until April 18.
Montgomery’s display consists of the artist’s works produced with different techniques such as light installations and watercolor paintings.
The contemporary artist is known for his “continuity of keeping the conceptual art traditions alive by using texts and poems as the base of his works,” said a press release from the gallery.
“Istanbul has inspired me since my first visit in 2010,” said the 43-year-old artist: “I love the mixture of voices and the mixture of cultures- the call to prayer at sunset mixing with the sound of Nirvana songs from the cafes of Galata for me sums up the wonderful cultural diversity and spirituality of the city,” according the a press release from the gallery.
