Music lovers to gather for Byzantion Fest
Istanbul’s Heybeliada, one of the city’s Prince’s Islands, is set to host a free ‘Do It Yourself’ festival of “independent subculture” on June 20.
The 3rd Byzantion Fest aims to gather music lovers who are interested music beyond the mainstream.
Fanzine and design workshops will also be held and the festival will bring together Turkish music acts such as Palmiyeler, Foton Kusagi, Kim Ki O and Haossaa.
Istanbul Pera Museum hosts British contemporary artist
Works by British contemporary artist Grayson Perry can be seen at Istanbul’s Pera Museum until July 26.
The artist, who also won the Turner Prize in 2003 for his famous ceramic pots, will also exhibit tapestries and prints.
The Vanity of Small Differences is being curated by Linsey Young.
“The exhibition reflects the artist’s unrelenting fascination with issues of the everyday, of religion, class and identity,” said the museum, adding: “Well-known for his transvestite alter ego ‘Claire,’ Perry’s largest single body of work to date, The Vanity of Small Differences, is composed of six tapestries from the British Council Collection will also be exhibited.”
Ukrainian drama to hit Turkish cinemas
A Ukrainian drama called The Tribe -- screened entirely in sign language with no subtitles -- will hit Turkish theaters Friday.
Ukrainian filmmaker Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy’s prize-winning debut movie tells the story of a teenage boy who enrolls in a boarding school for deaf people.
The 2014 drama made an appearance at critics’ week in Cannes last year. Vanity magazine said: "Actions, emotions and desperate impulses speak far louder than words in The Tribe."
Mumbai-based French artist’s display in Istanbul
Istanbul’s Studio-X will host French artist Soazic Guezennec’s “imaginary real-estate agency” exhibition until July 3.
Called Happy Owners the exhibition “invites us to question our perception of the city and nature,” according to Studio X.
The project, which advertises fictional real-estate projects appropriated by nature, was first shown at Studio-X Mumbai in 2013.
