Anadolu Agency's News Academy on Monday launched the first course in its “New Generation” journalism training program in Istanbul.
In a keynote address delivered to mark the occasion, AA Visual News Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Sel congratulated program participants.
“You’re lucky because you will work with a professional staff and have an excellent chance to acquire journalistic skills,” Sel said.
AA News Academy Coordinator Umit Sonmez, for his part, said the program would provide participants with training in photojournalism, camera training, diplomacy journalism and sports journalism, among a host of other subjects.
Sonmez said that the training would serve to improve participants’ journalistic skills, but also stressed that more would be required -- in addition to the training -- to produce high-quality reporters.
“Journalism is way of life,” Sonmez asserted. “You must also acquire the ability to see everything around you from a journalistic perspective.”
The program, in which 58 people are participating, is slated to end on Dec. 18. Certificates will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the course.
AA’s News Academy was established as part of the agency’s centennial goals for 2020. For the past three years, the academy has held frequent seminars and provided a number of training programs.
