Anadolu Agency’s fifth war journalism certificate program started in the capital Ankara on Monday.
Referring to the recent conflicts in the Caucasus and Middle East, Anadolu Agency’s Deputy Director General Mustafa Ozkaya said: “As members of this geography, we have a responsibility to convey what is happening from the closest point in the most accurate way”.
Police Academy Deputy Chief Fatih Inal told the participants: “I want you to know that the training you receive is strong enough for you to tackle [any] hardships you may face”.
Anadolu Agency News Academy Coordinator Umit Sonmez said: “I hope that with the help of your training, you will perform your duties safely without facing any risks”.
Anadolu Agency is among a few global media institutions offering a program on war journalism. Turkey's official disaster management agency AFAD and the Turkish Armed Forces will also contribute its experienced staff to the program.
A comprehensive range of subjects will be offered in the program, including journalism, how to cover stories on terrorism, refugees, and media management in hostile environments such as chemical and biological attacks. The participants will also be given training on personal security, first aid, advanced driving techniques, water survival techniques and navigation.
Internationally-recognized certificates will be awarded to participants at the end of the program.
